Reverse Phone Detective Review

Reverse Phone Detective is a reverse phone lookup service that offers more information than competitors and claims to be able to provide reverse cell phone information, too. I decided to put them to the test and conduct my own review.

In a previous job, I was required to work with reverse directories to help find people for my employer.  Often, we had a phone number on record from someone who had called in to our office, but not the name associated with that phone number.

My job was to use reverse directories that offer a reverse phone lookup in order to find the name that was tied to that phone number.  This was back before Google – in fact, back when the only such directories were available in book subscription form.  These directories were outdated as quickly as the books arrived at the office.  Now, we have the world wide web and a wealth of data at our disposal.  The advent of the internet makes reverse phone lookups more accessible and more accurate than ever before.

It is cell phones that pose today’s challenge. While landline phone and address information may be readily available even through a Google search, cell phone records are not widely distributed and doing a reverse cell phone lookup will often get you no information at all through Google or free lookup services.

Reverse Phone Detective promises to handle reverse phone lookups in an entirely different manner.  Because they have been around since 1996, you have to assume they know the industry better than anyone.  I wanted to put them to the test, though, especially when it came to doing a reverse phone lookup on a cell phone number.

I know that in order to have a significant database of cell phone numbers, Reverse Phone Detective will have to have purchased cell phone information from cell phone service providers.  The reason is that there are no cell phone white pages today.  Cell phone names and numbers are not available publicly.  The only way to get this information and keep it up to date is to buy it through contracts.  Otherwise, it would be nearly impossible to offer the type of hit rates Reverse Phone Detective communicates in their advertising material.

Conducting a reverse phone lookup on my own cell phone number was as sure a test as I could perform because I knew there were a few curve balls in my number:

  • my cell phone number is subsidized through my employer
  • the actual account is under my maiden name
  • the area code of my cell phone does not match my address

If Reverse Phone Detective could provide accurate information on me, then I knew they had to be using the most sophisticated and legitimate means to assembling their database of information.

Joining Reverse Phone Detective requires payment of a one-time membership fee.  Again, assuming they are actually investing in maintaining an accurate database, the fee seems more than a bargain.  Pay once, get unlimited phone lookups for life.  I can handle that – if the information is solid a majority of the time.  Payment is easy and secure.  Options for payment are all of today’s popular payment methods including secure transactions through PayPal.  That is also a good sign the company is current and staying abreast of current market trends.

Finally, it was time to conduct the test.  I entered my cell phone number into Reverse Phone Detective’s easy to use search bar.  The results were shocking.

Not only did the report come back with my married name, but it included my accurate address, AND the names of my family members who are tied to the same cell phone plan.  There’s only one way they could get this information and that would be through active updates and investments in their database.

The service truly offers unlimited searches and much more information than you will find in any free reverse phone lookup directories.  You can find background information on the person who owns the phone number you are researching, address history information, and dates of service.  You will even be provided a map showing the general location of the person in the report.

My review of Reverse Phone Detective showed positive results and a wealth of information that you just can’t find anywhere else.  The pros were ease of use, accurate up-to-date-information, and more information than provided by competitors.  The con was certainly the price.  I like free tools.  However, I was unable to find any free tool that could provide accurate information.  I do, however, appreciate the fact that you only have to pay once but that you will forever forwards have access to the most up-to-date reverse phone information without having to pay any more.
