Should You Do a Reverse Cell Phone Number Search on Your Boss?

Frankly, I’m nosy.  I am pretty good at finding information about people – it used to be my job.  But did I go overboard when I started checking out my friends and coworkers?  How about doing a reverse cell phone number search on your boss?  There’s probably a fine line between using a reverse directory for meaningful purpose and using it simply because you are bored.

I suppose that was my reason.  I had no need for the information – just complete curiousity.  I’m absolutely harmless.  I would never use the information for the wrong purposes.  It was just that once I began poking around I simply ran through all the names in my head and the numbers in my phone book.  It was like playing Russian cell phone roullette.  How far could I go before I found something surprising?

It didn’t take long.  I didn’t know my boss was in the middle of a divorce.  Of course, after that, I assumed everything he said that didn’t make sense was because of the divorce.  The challenge was keeping the fact that I knew more about his personal life than he knew I knew a secret (I know – confusing).  I managed.

Reverse Cell Phone or Cell Phone Search – Which Do You Really Need?

People looking for a “reverse cell phone” or a “cell phone search” are likely looking for two different things.  However, the search engines can’t always tell which one you are after and you often end up with internet results that show you the companies that meet one request, but not the other.  How are these two terms different and which one do you really need?

Reverse Cell Phone
The clue is the word “reverse” in this search term.  To reverse a number means you have the number but need to find a name for that number.  It is the opposite of a white pages directory.  These types of lookups are great if you want to find out who has been calling you over and over, need to know the name that goes with a number that keeps showing up on your cell phone statement, or just want to know more about the person whose number you picked up at the club last night (but whose name you forgot!)  This is also handy for finding out who has been sending you anonymous text messages, by the way.

This is a standard type of white pages lookup.  You have a name but want to find the cell phone number that goes with that name.  Maybe you met someone new but didn’t have a chance to get their number and you’d like to find it so you can call them.

People often need one type of lookup or the other but the internet throws up so many listings for either that it’s sometimes hard to find the type of site you really need in order to get your answer.  You might follow link after link only to get lost in the options.

On top of that, there is no free directory, or white pages, of wireless numbers so try as you might, you just aren’t going to find one. Why?

More and more people are looking for reverse cell phone search free online information. There are really only a few ways to get this information for no charge:

Perform a number of lookups in internet search engines using a variety of number formats:

  • Enter the whole number into the search engine including the area code
  • Enter just the last seven digits of the cell phone number
  • Use specific site searches such as:  111-11-1111 site:ebay.com (or any site where people tend to include phone contact information)

As more and more people begin to use their cell phone as their main contact number, more people will eventually use that number on a website, in an online profile, or in some online directory where they want to be found.  This means reverse cell phone searches will be easier to get for free over time.

For now, those results are limited and the paid reverse phone directories are still the only way to quickly get the name and address tied to a cell phone number.

Due to the fact that consumers incur a fee for any minute spent on cellular phones, subscribers did not want to end up paying for generic calls or calls from complete strangers.

Because they have to incur expenses to obtain the more detailed info, they don’t give too much for free but it can be enough for some people. When you don’t want someone to know you’re checking up on them, you use a reverse cellular phone lookup to get their personal information without them knowing. Otherwise, you’d just pick up the phone and call them, right?

So, you’re sitting there with a phone number and a whole lot of questions. Who is the person who is calling my spouse from this number? Why is my son talking to a person at this phone number late at night? Is this new girlfriend all I think she is or is she secretly married?

Or, better yet, maybe you got a girl’s number when you were out with the guys and she was really cute but you can’t remember her name (girls HATE that, by the way). How can you come up with her name before you make that call to ask her out on a date?

When all you have is the phone number and, on top of that, you find out it is a cellular phone number, you can’t simply go online and lookup the person’s name. Laws don’t allow wireless carriers to publish cell phone owner names and address without them having to first get everyone’s permission – and that’s not likely to happen.
