Need some tricks to catch a cheating spouse with their cell phone records?  There is no question that wireless phones help people hide their calls more easily from their wife or husband but they also leave a great trail of breadcrumbs that can lead you right to the evidence that your significant other is not being faithful.

Review the cell phone statement:

You want the statement that shows the actual phone detail – the phone numbers that were dialed and the numbers that called in – for your spouse’s phone.  If your monthly statement is only a summary, log in to your account through the carrier’s website.  If only your spouse has access, try getting the login and password without them knowing.  You can even call your carrier and have them help you log in with a password reset.

If you can’t get the log in information because your spouse has put a special code on the account – well, that might be a clue there’s a problem.

Once you have the cell phone statement detail, review the statement for patterns

• Are there repeat calls in and out to the same number?
• Does the number look unfamiliar?
• Are there lengthy calls at odd times of the day or night?
• Are there calls at times you believe your spouse was doing something where they should not have been on the phone?  (For example, they told you they were going shopping with a friend or golfing with their buddy and yet  they were on the phone for hours during that same time?)

Make a note of any suspicious numbers.

Previous statements:

With your list of suspicious numbers, take a look at all the previous cell phone statements for your spouse’s cell phone.

• Do any of the phone numbers on your list show up in prior months?
• Again, look for any unusual trends or call times.

Research those numbers online:

Type each of the numbers on your list of possibles into an internet search engine.  If the number is a published land line phone number or a cell phone that has been entered online anywhere, you might come across the person’s name or address.  If you don’t find anything, it’s either non-published or a cell phone number.

Check the phone itself:

Whether or not your spouse is cheating, they are likely to keep their cell phone close at hand.  It’s not uncommon for someone to have their cell phone physically on them right up until they go to bed.  Depending on your sleeping habits, it might be difficult to get your hands on that cell phone.  Except – when your spouse goes to take a shower.  That’s when a cell phone becomes most available.

Wait for the right moment and peek at the cell phone while your spouse is in the shower.  Look for text messages, outgoing calls to numbers you don’t recognize, or incoming calls.  Same patterns of information you looked for on the statements.  Jot down any numbers you want to research online.

Add chaperone to your spouse’s phone:

If you can get your hands on your spouse’s cell phone AND your spouse won’t notice a new app being installed, find out how to add a parent/chaperone service to your spouse’s cell phone. This service is meant to help parents track the whereabouts of their children by cell phone. You can log into a special account online to find the location of your spouse, or check their location from your own phone at any time. However, both phones usually have to have the service turned on and there’s a monthly fee for the program. If your spouse reviews the monthly statements or would recognize a new app on their phone, then this method may not work for you.

Keep your own records:

If you don’t find anything useful, your spouse may be quickly deleting a record of any incoming or outgoing calls that would be evidence of cheating.  However, those cell phone statements each month are still going to have that information.  Start keeping notes for yourself on when your spouse says they are going to run an errand, be home late, or out with friends.  Note the date, the time they leave the house and the time they come home.  Check the online cell phone records or your next month’s statement and compare those dates and times with any calls made or received during those same times.
